BC Cancer Research strives to improve the lives of patients through the integration of basic biomedical research, genomics, clinical trials, health services research, cancer surveillance, population health, and the development of innovative new technology, programs, and interventions. Organized through departments and programs with various themes, BC Cancer supports groundbreaking cancer research and personalized care approaches through world-class facilities and platforms including genomics, bioinformatics, imaging, drug development and tissue banking.

Dr. Poul Sorensen honoured with Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research

The 2025 Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research was awarded to Dr. Poul Sorensen for his revolutionary contributions to pediatric cancer diagnostics and care. The award is a UBC Faculty of Medicine National Research Prize, which celebrates individuals who exemplify excellence in scientific research and ongoing impact in their respective fields.

Dr. Florian Kuchenbauer receives Pediatric Blood Cancer Research Innovation Grant

Dr. Florian Kuchenbauer, a distinguished researcher at BC Cancer, is the recipient of a Pediatric Blood Cancer Research Innovation Grant from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada for his project titled, “Targeting O-GlcNAc Transferase in Pediatric EVI1-High Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.”

This grant is designed to challenge the current pediatric blood cancer landscape by providing funding for projects that will address unmet needs for pediatric blood cancers.

Recipients of 2025 BC Cancer Emerging Multidisciplinary Research Programs Announced

BC Cancer’s 2025 Cancer Emerging Multidisciplinary Research Programs supports research teams to initiate novel multidisciplinary research projects that aim to tackle well-defined issues or problems that affect patients living with cancer or at risk of developing cancer. Funding for the programs is provided through the BC Ministry of Health in collaboration with the BC Cancer Foundation.
